Coverage areas vary — some serve one city or hospital, others operate nationally or in Israel — so confirm scope and availability directly with each organization.
Some programs focus on anonymous premarital compatibility screening: two people are tested confidentially, and the result is reported as compatible or not compatible without disclosing each person’s carrier status. Other programs provide individual carrier reports or cancer-risk information, often with genetic-counselor support.
Both models can be useful, but they serve different needs. Anonymous compatibility screening may be preferred in communities where privacy and marriage prospects are central concerns. Individual reports may be useful for couples planning a pregnancy, people seeking broader reproductive information, or families evaluating cancer risk.
The organizations below are common starting points for Jewish families considering genetic screening. Ask each program what conditions it screens for, what kind of result is returned, how privacy is handled, and whether counseling is included.
